Evan Chavez —
Associate Attorney | Trust & Estate Litigation
In addition to handling litigation on behalf of beneficiaries, trustees, creditors, and fiduciaries, Evan is a registered tax agent and handles property tax appeals at the administrative and state court level advocating for taxpayer property owners.
Prior to joining Trust Law Partners, Evan spent several years litigating trust and estate cases and probate proceedings and helped secure millions in refunds from property tax appeals. He has given presentations on the impact of Prop. 19 in probate and served as a panelist at the California Alliance of Taxpayer Advocates’ (CATA) annual conference. His previous legal experience includes work as an Examining Attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and plaintiff litigator focusing on civil rights and employment law.
Before his legal career, Evan wrote articles for a 3D printing news website and taught English and Ethnic Studies at Verbum Dei Jesuit High School in Los Angeles after earning his B.A. in English from University of California, Irvine and MFA from California Institute of the Arts. He currently is a member of the Verbum Dei Jesuit Corporate Work Study Program Jobs Committee connecting high school students in Watts with corporate work experience.
Evan received his J.D. from Tulane University and received certificates in mediation, arbitration, and negotiation from Humboldt University of Berlin. While in law school, Evan served as the Senior Notes & Comments Editor for the Journal of Technology and Intellectual Property and worked with Tulane’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. He also was a member of the Civil Rights & Federal Practice Clinic as a student-attorney and served as president for various organizations including the Tulane Latinx Law Student Association and Student Federal Bar Association.
When he is not in the office working on cases, Evan cherishes spending quality time with his wife and daughter and extended family and enjoys art galleries, musicals, rugby matches and occasionally painting, writing, and reading leisurely.
